Facial sagging

As time passes, a gravitational effect can be felt more and more in the lower face. This can be due to a combination of facial fat pad changes as well as loss of elasticity in the skin. Muscles also play a part in this change with some people experiencing bulky chewing muscles and others experiencing the downward pull of tight neck muscles.

Before addressing deeper changes of the facial layers such as volume loss, it is important to optimise the skin first. We recommend using high-quality skincare products to support the health and appearance of your skin and to help prevent these changes that are often associated with sun exposure and environmental stressors. Examples include retinoids, SPF and antioxidant serums.

There are a number of medical cosmetic treatments that can help to improve the changes associated with volume loss. We often recommend considering a skin tightening procedure (such as radiofrequency microneedling or skinboosters) before considering dermal fillers to ensure the best result. Dermal fillers can be used delicately to replenish areas of volume loss as well as blend areas to restore contours. Wrinkle relaxers may be appropriate to relax tight neck muscles or reduce masseter size.
